Drug Charges Follow Retail Theft Complaint

Caledonia man faces prison after he was reportedly caught with drugs after allegedly stealing baby clothes.

RACINE β€”A Caledonia man reportedly caught stealing baby clothing from Sears now faces prison because of drugs and drug paraphernalia officers say they found in his pockets.

Wayne S. Dykas, 26, 6931 Butternut Road, is charged with possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor retail theft. If convicted he faces up to 2 years in prison plus time on extended supervision or probation.

According to the criminal complaint against Dykas, Racine police went to Sears, 5600 Durand Ave., for a report of a retail theft. An employee of the store told police that he saw Dykas on the store surveillance system hiding baby shoes and clothing under his sweatshirt and push a shopping cart out of the store that contained a caulk gun he had not paid for.

Dykas gave the items back.

Wen he was taken into custody by police, he reportedly admitted he had needles in the front pocket of his jeans. Officers found three syringes in his pocket, a robber band and an tube with white powder inside. There was also a plastic bag with what appeared to be drugs inside, and a smoking pipe that smelled of marijuana. Dykas reportedly told police he had been using oxycodone.
