On Thursday, Caledonia police officers were called to the victim’s apartment in the 4300 block of Kennedy Drive after she came home to find $1,300 in electronics missing from the home. She said Meshigaud had been staying with her since Tuesday after he got released from a hospital.

Meshigaud had been acting fine until Thursday with the victim’s son called her at work and said he was unable to get into the apartment. The woman discovered a key had been snapped off in the lock and the deadbolt was also locked.

They were eventually able to make it into the apartment and she discovered the electronics missing.

Meshigaud’s wife contacted the victim after she learned from her cousin he showed up at her home looking to sell the stolen items and he sent his wife text messages saying “I messed up and I need to go to jail.”

Meshigaud was found by police in the 3500 block of Douglas Avenue and he was taken into custody. He said he took the items and placed them by a dumpster near the apartment and wrote a note saying “this is what you guys expected of me,” and left the note with the items while he went to take a walk in nearby woods.

He said when he came back the items were gone and suspected one of the neighbors took them. Meshigaud denied trying to sell the items, but said he took the items because he wanted to go to jail.

Meshigaud is currently being held in Racine County Jail on $2,500 bond while awaiting trial.
