Not the Way to Clean Up
A Racine man is accused of running from Caledonia police officers after someone reported he stole body wash from Walgreens.
A 46-year-old Racine man is accused of stealing body wash from a Walgreens in Caledonia.
Bervis D. Sallis was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Thursday with two counts of retail theft and one count of obstructing an officer. If convicted, he faces up to 27 months in prison and $30,000 in fines.

At 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to Walgreens after an employee spotted Sallis stealing soap from the store. The employee noticed Sallis had been involved with other recent thefts of deodorant and soap from the same store in recent days.
When a Caledonia police officer arrived at the store he saw Sallis walking outside. He turned on the emergency lights on his squad car and ordered Sallis to stop, but he instead took off running onto South 32nd Street.

A second police officer joined in the chase, while the first officer slipped and fell on some ice, hurting his knee. Sallis eventually slowed down and fell to the ground and was taken into custody.
Four bottles of body wash were lying on the ground where Sallis was apprehended.
Sallis is currently being held in Racine County Jail on $500 bond while awaiting trial.
