Man Admits The Meds He Took While Driving Made Him "Lazy"

He almost hit an oncoming car with a three-year-old boy in the back seat.

A man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, July 2 on Three Mile Road and Charles Street.

According to a report by the Caledonia Police Department, Curtis Gossett, 21, of Racine, was driving with a three-year-old boy in the backseat of his car when police conducted a traffic stop.

Police noted that Gossett had crumbs and a half-eaten box of French fries on his lap, and that he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. They smelled vomit, alcohol, McDonald’s food and cigarette smoke coming from Gossett and the car.

When police conducted a field sobriety test, they saw that Gossett had vomit on his pants, the car seat and the doorjamb of the car. Gossett said it was from the food he ate.

He failed the field sobriety test.  But Gossett said he believed this was because he was taking several prescription medications, including Zanax, Lorazepam, Depacote, Clonazepam, and Protoxetine that made him “feels lazy.” A preliminary breathalyzer test showed his blood-alcohol content was .054 percent, which is under the .08 legal limit.

He was cited for driving under the influence, unsafe lane deviation and inattentive driving.
