Man Charged in Fatal April Crash

Daniel Hess faces a homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle charge after he allegedly hit a van while under the influence of drugs in April.

A 38-year-old Racine man is facing homicide charges for his role in a fatal car crash in April on Six Mile Road.

Daniel J. Hess was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years and $100,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 6:26 a.m. April 2,  Hess was travelling eastbound on Six Mile Road near Foley Road when he hit a van heading in the opposite direction. The driver of the van, Michelle Schluechtermann, was killed in the incident.

Hess told officers he took Percocet before driving. A blood test revealed he had Oxycodone, Hydromorphine and Methadone in his system at the time of the incident.

Hess is being held in Racine County Jail on $50,000 bail while awaiting trial.

To mislead people... Fortunately for those of us that know how to read and interpret CCAP- These are all not the same person.. just the same name. So before anyone jumps to conclusions, they should wait to see the outcome, and not judge if you do not know the person or the truth.. Yes there was atragic accident, but only those involved know what happened. I pray for all the families involved in this.

I agree with you Rosie. It clearly says when you click the link that when you put a birthday in it pulls up all records of a person with that name if a birthday isn't listed in their record. Everyone likes a conspiracy theory, I guess.

Don't need CCAP to realize this guy is a loser. Too bad a family member couldn't have got him on a better path before he caused a death. Now he gets 3 hots and cot from us, until he gets released. I don't get the 50K bail, that's only 5000 to get out. Who is this judge, when is his or her term up? Most people could raise that amount good thing this guy can't.

Kudos the the Caledonia PD especially the investigators for working many hours to put together a case strong enough to get a conviction to give the family of the victim some closure and peace.
