Man Flees During A Traffic Stop On Interstate 94

After searching for more than an hour, the man remains at large.

Law enforcement officials searched for a man for more than an hour after he fled from a Racine County Sheriff’s Deputy during a traffic stop on Interstate 94 Friday afternoon.

As of 10 p.m. Friday, May 13 the man was still at large.

The deputy stopped the man at 3:10 p.m. driving a black Dodge Neon for a registration violation going northbound on Interstate 94 just north of Seven Mile Road. But during the traffic stop the man, and a female passenger, fled the scene on foot, said Sgt. Chuck Gehrand, of the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

‘The deputy was able to take the female into custody, but the male continued into a wooded area near I-94 between Seven and Seven and a Half Mile Road,” Gehrand said. “He was last seen in a wooded area going east bound from the interstate.”

The woman told police she didn’t know the man and they still don't know who the man was.

To establish a perimeter, the roads were closed along Highway V, the East Frontage Road, Seven, and Seven and a Half Mile Road. Officers from the Caledonia Police Department, k-9 units from the Oak Creek Creek Police Department and deputies from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department searched the area until about 4:30 p.m.

“We don’t know why he ran,” Gehrand said. “We didn’t know his identity. And we stopped him for a registration violation, which would be that the only charge we could make would be obstruction.”
