Police: Student OD's on Adderall

Caledonia police responded Saturday to a report of a possible drug overdose.

Caledonia police say a 19-year-old woman was taken into custody after she violated bond conditions by using Adderral "to help (her) study."

Jessica Hughes was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with single misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. If convicted, she faces up to eight years, one month in jail and/or up to $21,000 in fines.

The bail jumping charges stem from a case last month in which Hughes was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. As a condition of her $250 signature bond, Hughes was ordered by the court to not possess any controlled substances or to engage in any more criminal activity.

According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia police and rescue were called to a home in the 5300 block of 4-Mile Road for a report of a possible drug overdose. When officers arrived, they found a young woman - later identified as Hughes - on the floor of a bedroom who was unresponsive and appeared to have trouble breathing.

Police say they observed a pill bottle on the bed, a melted plastic cap and a cotton ball on the floor. They moved Hughes to the living room so rescue would have room to treat her. Paramedics were able to revive Hughes before transporting her to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary's.

Officers were able to interview Hughes later at the hospital, and she told them that she took some Adderall that she got from her mom in order to help her study.

As of Monday afternoon, online jail records show that Hughes remains in custody on a co-signed surety bond for $1,000. Her next court date is Dec. 9.
