Sturtevant Man Allegedly Hits Woman With Car, Then Beats Her

A 30-year-old Sturtevant man is facing charges after he allegedly ran down a woman with his car after they got into a fight at a Caledonia party, then stripped her half naked and beat and choked her till she passed out.

Jonathan W. Vaughn was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with one count of substantial battery domestic abuse, one count of strangulation and suffocation and one count of second-degree reckless endangerment of safety. If convicted, he faces up to nearly 23 years in prison and $55,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Sunday, the victim was at a party with Vaughn in the 1600 block of Wind Dale Drive, when they got into an argument and she left and began to walk away from the house. Vaughn continued to yell at her while she walked away, then got into his car, accelerated at a high rate of speed, then slammed on the break just before hitting the woman on the left side, causing her to be thrown forward several feet and land on the ground on her hands and knees.

Vaughn then got out of the car and said “if you want to be a whore, you can walk home like a naked whore,” and pulled off her shorts and swimsuit bottoms. He then began to kick her in the face, went through her purse, then as she screamed for help, he strangled her till she passed out.

When she woke up, the victim found an older man taking Vaughn off of her and covering her with a blanket. She said she thought Vaughn would kill her and said the man was the reason she was still alive.

When Vaughn was questioned about the incident, he said the victim gave all the injuries to herself. He’s currently being held in Racine County Jail on $5,000 bond while awaiting trial.
