Woman Tosses Hammer Through Stranger's Window, Flees to Caledonia, Police Say

Police say a New Berlin woman goes to a stranger's home in West Allis, knocks on the door, then tosses a hammer through the window.

A New Berlin woman is accused of throwing a hammer through a West Allis man's window then trying to run over a police officer before driving to Caledonia and getting into a car accident.

Dawn M. Geske, 37, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of disorderly conduct. If convicted, she faces up to 90 days in jail and $1,000 in fines.

At 9 a.m. Oct. 31, a man was sitting inside his home in the 2000 block of South 82nd Street in West Allis, when he heard the doorbell ring. He went to the front door and found Geske standing there. He didn't know who Geske was, but she then picked up a hammer sitting on his porch and tossed it through his window.

He tried to grab her, but she squirmed out of her jacket. Geske then ran to a car parked on the sidewalk, got in it and drove off on the sidewalk, hitting a light pole and garbage can on the way. The man got Geske's license plate number and West Allis police officers then went to her apartment in the 3500 block of South Stonegate Circle in New Berlin.

When they knocked on her door, the officers could see Geske walking around inside wearing a bathrobe, but she wouldn't answer the door. Geske eventually answered the door and told officers she had been at home all day. She wouldn't allow officers inside her home, but said she would take them to see her car. She then walked into a garage area where her car where an officer heard her start up her car and back out.Β 

The officer commanded her to stop and drew his firearm, but Geske then accelerated towards him, but he moved out of the way. Police were later contacted by the Caledonia Police Department after Geske was involved in a car accident. She was taken into custody.

She will make her initial appearance in court Nov. 19.
