Update: 4-Mile Road Underpass Open Late Friday

Residents will have an easier time getting around the east side of Caledonia Friday when single lanes of traffic open on 4-Mile Road.

**Updated 10 a.m. Sept. 11

Yes, it's true: the 4-Mile Road underpass is getting asphalt Wednesday and will be open by Friday.

Village Engineer Mike Hayek last month confirmed for Patch that at least one lane of traffic in each direction will be open even as finishing work continues.

On Tuesday, Hayek left a voicemail message that concrete curb and gutter were complete under the bridge and that asphalt would go down starting Wednesday.

"Hopefully we have good weather to start putting asphalt down Wednesday and continue through Thursday and Friday," he said. "We hope to have one lane of traffic open in each direction by late Friday."

There is remaining work to do like putting in the sidewalks and landscaping, but getting the road open with at least a single lane for both east- and westbound lanes is the goal.
