UPDATE: Zoning Board Of Appeals Denies Wind Turbine Request

UPDATE: The Zoning Board of Appeals denied the resident's request in a four to one vote this morning. Here's a link to the story the Racine Journal Times did.

Caledonia denies couple's wind turbine proposal

A Caledonia resident wants the Village to him to build a 54-foot wind turbine on his property.

According to county records, David and Kristie Zahn own the property at 5438 Short Rd., which is zoned suburban residential. A wind turbine, considered to be a small wind energy facility, is not a permitted use in that type of zoning designation. According to Village documents, Zahn’s permit was denied because “the sound decibel level made by the proposed wind turbine” had not been studied.

However, Zahn has filed an appeal.

Residents living in the area between highways 31 and 38, and Four Mile and Five Mile roads received a letter to attend a public hearing at the Zoning Board of Appeals, which will be held at 9 a.m. June 28 at the Caledonia Community Center, 6156 Douglas Ave.
