GAB Declares Prosser the Winner of Supreme Court Race
The state elections agency certifies the statewide election results with incumbent Justice David Prosser Jr. the victor, giving candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg until May 31 to file a challenge.
The Government Accountability Board declared incumbent Justice David Prosser as the winner of the state Supreme Court race following a lengthy recount of the ballots cast in the April 5 election.
Prosser received 752,694 votes to his challenger, Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg, who received 745,690 winning by .46 percent of the vote, according to the GAB.
The recount gained 371 votes for Prosser and 683 votes for Kloppenburg, according to the GAB. The change wasn’t enough for Kloppenburg to recover the difference of 7,004 votes between the two candidates.

Kloppenburg had declared victory when reports April 6 showed she was ahead by about 200 votes. However, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus left out of her report to the Associated Press all the votes from the city of Brookfield, a predominately conservative community. The votes from Brookfield made up the difference to give Prosser the win.
Kloppenburg has until May 31 to challenge the GAB’s decision. A copy of the official canvass certification and report can be found on its website.
