Weatherston Wins 62nd District Race, Vos and Wirch Retain Their Seats

In the state legislative races, the races didn't finish up until later in the evening. But here's where things were at by 11:45 p.m.

Despite the Republicans having a dismal night in the presidential race, they held a strong lead for the state assembly by 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

However, Bob Wirch (D-Kenosha) garnered more votes than Republican Pam Stevens in the race for the redistricted 22nd State Senate seat.

Wirch said he was able to harness a lead because of his track record.

Incumbent Robin Vos (R-Rochester) looked like he would maintain his 63rd State Assembly seat against political newcomer Kelly Albrecht (D-Burlington) and Tom Weatherston (R-Caledonia) also held a strong lead against Melissa Lemke, a Democrat out of Racine.

Vos said he was reassured by the numbers that had come in, but he would be staying up to see what the final numbers were.

"Still, I'm gratified by what we've been able to accomplish in Wisconsin and I know that the state is headed in the right direction," Vos said.

Weatherston said he was grateful for the vote of confidence from his supporters and that he would work to develop a state-wide program that would help bring more awareness of the skilled trades to high school students, work on improving motorcycle safety courses and help bring jobs back to the state.

"But my win isn't so much of a victory for me, but rather it's for you," Weatherston told his supporters.
