Unified ACT Scores Rise, Walden Continues to Lead

Average ACT scores continue to rise among Racine Unified students.

Overall, Racine Unified students ACT scores improved in 2013 over 2012, rising from an average of 20.2 to an average of 20.4.

The state average is 22.1, and the national average sits at 20.9.

Students at Walden III once again lead the district with an average composite score of 23.1, up from 22.4 in 2012.

Overall, Wisconsin tied Iowa to take the number two spot in the nation, according to a press release from State Superintendent Tony Evers.

During the 2012-2013 school year, almost 200 juniors and seniors participated in an ACT boot camp led by professionals from Test Prep Seminars. This year, the district plans to offer two boot camps to help prepare a greater number of students for the ACT, according to a press release from the district.

Overall, Director of Standards, Assessment and Accountability Dr. Steve Miller recognizes there is more work to be done, but the increase average is noteworthy.

“We are encouraged to see an increase in ACT composite score for all students this year, though we know much more work needs to be done to bring our scores up to the state level,” he said in the release.

About 71 percent of Wisconsin's 2013 graduates took the ACT. Participation in ACT testing overall is expected to increase when Wisconsin adopts the ACT as part of its statewide assessment.
