Zurawski Earns PTA Scholarship

This Caledonia girl excelled academically, participated in sports and music.

Anna Zurawski was among 25 high school seniors, who received scholarships at the annual Racine PTA Council Scholarship and Awards banquet held earlier this month at the Racine Marriott.

Her friends and family call her an over-achiever—she’s just one of those people who always wants to do more than is required. From the time she started playing flute while a student at Jerstad-Agerholm Middle School, she pushed herself to play the best she possibly can.  Now she plays with the band, pep band and in the pit orchestra for Horlick’s madrigal renaissance dinner.

In seventh grade, she started to run cross-country, and always tries to improve her times.  It works—in her very first meet all those years ago her time was 22 minutes for a 2-1/2 mile race—and now it’s down to 16 minutes and 37 seconds.   In ninth grade, Anna added soccer to her agenda, then International Club and National Honor Society.

The volunteer work she most enjoys involves working with kids, and that’s impacted her choices for the future.  Anna will be attending UW–Eau Claire to pursue a degree in elementary education, specializing in helping children with special needs.

We hope that Anna Zurawski will continue to be an over-achiever and we are proud to present her tonight with the 2011 Val Peterson Memorial Scholarship.
