Watching the Super Bowl Renewed My Faith in Football

Yesterday, I recommitted myself to the Green and Gold!

I have to admit that I’ve been a fair-weather football fan for several years, but now I've recommitted myself.

This mostly has to do with the emergence of fantasy football and a certain fiancé of mine who has to watch every game all season long. This coupled with the fact that I often worked on Sundays gave him a welcome reprieve from my heavy sighs of dissatisfaction.

However, the last month of watching the Packers persevere and ultimately win the Super Bowl has made watching football enjoyable again.

Still, I don’t see myself rising to the same level of fandom the fiancé has. I won’t be watching the computer intently to see how my fantasy team is doing, won’t claim the couch for hours on end and um…won’t be extending the stay on said couch past Monday night football.

With that said, watching the game with my fiancé’s family, reminded me of watching the game next to my dad when I was little. Sure, he’d play armchair quarterback and teach me about fumbles, interceptions, and completed passes. But it was great connecting with him and I watched every game with him for years.

Being from Ohio, we were Browns fans and not but a year after I moved to Wisconsin, the Browns left. I’ve never reclaimed them as being fan-worthy of my attention and I have to say that the Packers have earned a special place in my heart.

So, on Sunday, I renewed my faith in the green and gold and my allegiance to all things chedderhead.

And I say, it feels pretty darn good.
