We are not Idiots! We are Stay At Home Fathers

We have all seen the commercials. You may not pay much attention to them. But I do. They go something like this:Wife leaves the home and clearly the husband is in charge of three kids and a dog. Kids and dog go outside during an apparent rain storm while dad decides to make a smoothie. Kids and dog come back inside covered with mud now flung onto the white floor. At the same exact moment, the cover comes off the smoothie maker throwing strawberry smoothie around the kitchen. Enter mom into the messy kitchen as she comes home after enjoying a Mocha Coconut Light Frappuccino with her girlfriend at Starbucks. She glares at her husband while he shrugs his shoulders with a sheepish, 'Looks like I will be sleeping on the couch tonight' look on his face.Have you seen these commercials?Now, I obviously do not know many stay at home dads but I would think that most shake their heads and say "that is not me." I do more than that. I despise these 'lets make men look like idiots when they are around the kitchen or the kids' commercials. In fact, I go out of my way not to buy the products these companies sell. I know it doesn't really make a dent in their bottom line. But, it makes me feel good though. Most stay at home dads are raising their children by choice. Some have left careers to change diapers and to referee over temper tantrums. These are not dumb men. These are men that work harder being at home than they did in an office or lab somewhere. They are courageous men for being a stay at home father.  Now I understand that the large brained ad execs in NY don't expect men, let alone stay at home dads, to be watching TV during the day. But we do. And I got news for them. We are not idiots and we know it.
