Have you ever wanted to volunteer within the community but didn’t know how to get started?

If so, you are not alone.

The Volunteer Center of Racine County and United Way of Racine County have heard those requests and have partnered together to create an easy way for all Racine County residents to get involved.

Together, the two organizations recently launch a new website called Volunteer Solutions to help volunteers, nonprofit agencies, corporations and event organizers get connected. Anyone can search for local volunteer opportunities based on their interests, skills and location or simply by entering a keyword such as environment.

Paul Rohling, who volunteers as the Chair of the United Way Community Investment Committee, said website is easy to use.

“The new website easily matches volunteer interests with community needs, both by area of interest and geographic location,” he says.

After retiring, Rohling wanted to give back to the community and he contacted United Way to get involved. He describes the team of about 100 volunteers he now works with as “a group of passionate, dedicated, and professional men and women who work hard to meet the needs of our community."

Nancy Anderson, another United Way volunteer, has the same admiration for the group she volunteers with in Racine County.

“Volunteers bring commitment, enthusiasm and the ability to connect with others in a meaningful way,” Anderson said. “We offer help because we want to help. It comes from a sincere desire to be part of the bigger picture.”

Both Rohling and Anderson are hopeful this new website is well supported by our community who needs volunteers. Many describe volunteering as rewarding and easier to do than one might think. Volunteering can be as little or as much of a time commitment as you would like and offers a flexible schedule.
